As of March 1, 2012

Dear Parishioner,

Every year at this time, the Archdiocese levies a tax on each Parish to cover the cost of programs and ministries for the people of the Archdiocese in Marin, San Mateo and San Francisco Counties .  This year our assessment is $66,500.

We hope that each family will make a contribution of $450 or more toward this assessment.  Gratefully, some families can give much more, but others less. Mindful of current economic conditions, we nonetheless ask that each and every family consider giving according to their means.

Last year, 238 donors (out of approximately 1,200 registered Parish households) participated and helped support the Appeal.  While we are most grateful to these loyal and generous parishioners, it is hardly fair for the rest of us to expect them to carry the full load for the other more than three-quarters of the Parish.  This year, I would ask each individual or family to consider giving at some level to the Appeal.  Give only what you can, but if we all participate in at least some way, the burden becomes lighter for all.  Each and every dollar makes a difference.  If we reach our goal, any additional funds received will be used for Parish projects.

We make this Archdiocesan Appeal for money once a year at this time.  Please respond with a grateful heart for all that the Parish provides for you during the year.

Thank you, in advance, for helping us with our taxes.

Sincerely in Christ,  Reverend Lawrence Vadakkan, Administrator

Archbishop's Annual Appeal 2012

The Archbishop's Annual Appeal is the method chosen by the pastors to fund the operation of the Archdiocese. Eleven pastors (the Archbishop's Stewardship Council) oversee the process and recommend individual parish assessments. This funding:

A) Supports ministries provided by the parishes: Religious Education & Youth Ministry, Parish/ School support, Respect Life, Marriage Preparation, etc..

B) Provides direct ministry when the scope of that ministry is too large or complex for any single parish to accomplish: Tribunal, Hospital Chaplains, Detention Ministry, Ethnic Ministry, Natural Family Planning, etc..

C) Maintains centralized services and support for all parishes and schools in a more cost-effective manner than each parish or school providing the services themselves: Finance, Human Resources, Payroll, Development, Property Management, Catholic San Francisco, etc..

In addition, this funding enables the Archdiocese to

D) Provide continuing education and other services for priests and deacons, educate and form new priests and deacons; support retired priests and enable efforts to recruit new priests, deacons, and those called to consecrated life.

E) Maintain communication with the California Conference of Bishops, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Vatican, and provide financial support to these entities to demonstrate once again that "catholic" means "universal" and that our Church is bigger than any parish or diocese.

The Archbishop's Annual Appeal helps individuals, the parish and the Archdiocese realize their respective opportunities as Christian stewards.
